Keeping cool

For a number of years now, summer has offered scorching days when the thermometer can climb above 35°C. In these conditions, the search for coolness becomes imperative! Fortunately, Montreux Riviera has a number of effective ways of keeping cool in all circumstances.

Aquatic freshness

When the heat starts to get to your head, there's nothing like a refreshing dip in the pool. And in Montreux Riviera, there's no shortage of options! The most obvious is naturally Lake Geneva and its many beaches: grass or pebbles, diving board or playground, and sometimes all at the same time, the choice is yours. The same goes for the dozen or so swimming pools available in the region. From May to September, farniente lovers converge on La Tour-de-Peilz and Vevey for Dolce Riviera.

Natural freshness

What could be better than a getaway in the heart of nature to clear the mind and body? From the summit of the Rochers-de-Naye - Montreux Riviera's highest point at 2042 metres - to the heart of the Grangettes Nature Reserve or the Gruyère Pays-d'Enhaut Regional Nature Park, freshness is always accompanied by a mosaic of striking landscapes. For experienced walkers, a hike through the lush vegetation of the Gorges du Chauderon is well worth the effort of 430 meters of positive altitude difference.

Active freshness

Because cooling off doesn't exclude a little energy expenditure or a dose of thrills, Montreux Riviera offers a wide range of activities that combine these two pleasures. While stand-up paddling and the multitude of other water sports available on Lake Geneva come to mind first, the more adventurous might try a radical change of perspective with paragliding, hang-gliding or hot-air ballooning.

Rocky coolness

Situated just opposite the famous Château de Chillon, the Fort de Chillon offers the double pleasure of immersing yourself in Swiss history and a very pleasant constant temperature of 19°C. A few kilometers to the south, the Bex Salt Mines allow you to explore underground galleries where the mercury never exceeds 17°C. And if that's not enough, there's always the eternal snow of Glacier 3000.

Refreshing tasting

The region's winegrowers know better than anyone: the freshness of a Chasselas goes perfectly with that of a cellar. And for those who wish to indulge in the joys of wine tasting while watching the landscape go by, it's perfectly possible to enjoy an excellent Lavaux wine in the comfort of the GoldenPass Express to Gstaad and Interlaken. Or aboard one of CGN's Belle Epoque steamers for a hair-raising cruise.
