Between lake and mountains, the Riviera is the Swiss landscape par excellence. Come and admire it from the open sea! Its rocky and green hillsides seem to plunge from the heights to stop abruptly on the charming villages bordering the Haut-Lac. Shortly after Montreux, the Château de Chillon dominates the waves while the Dents du Midi rise in the distance. A few more metres and you are close to the Île de Peilz and the Grangettes nature reserve. An escape not to be missed !

At the helm of the most beautiful Belle Epoque vessels of the CGN, Captain Michel Bonzon has been sailing on Lake Geneva for over 20 years. An exceptional working environment which nevertheless requires skill, experience and calmness when it comes to manoeuvring vessels of up to 80 metres in length and accommodating almost 1,000 passengers.

What qualities are required to be a good captain?
The first is undoubtedly a sense of anticipation. I would also say that you have to know how to remain calm while being able to make yourself heard by your colleagues.

Have you experienced any complicated situations during your career?
To be honest, I've been through just about everything... except a shipwreck and a birth!

Is there a boat you prefer to pilot?
Oh, they all have their own little idiosyncrasies that make them so charming. But whatever the boat, I must admit that I love sailing in the evening or at night. The scenery, the lake, the people: everything has a special atmosphere.

Michel Bonzon was hired by CGN on 17 June 1985. A carpenter by training, he held several positions within the company before being promoted to captain in 1999. Special feature: he never learned to swim!
